Many choose to save money and purpose over the counter teeth whitening kits rather than visit a dentist for professional teeth whitening sessions. Most drug stores and health and beauty departments offer several different options for home teeth whitening kits. These kits allow consumers to whiten their teeth in the privacy of their own home. The most common types of kits available come in the form of trays, gels, and strips. While all of the kits show the results of whiter teeth, some kits have advantages over others.
Teeth Whitening Trays
One over the counter whitening kit for teeth is complete with whitening trays. The trays are pre-filled with whitening substance. The user simply places the trays on the top and bottom teeth. The trays stay in the mouth for a specified amount of time while the whitening chemical works to create whiter and brighter teeth. Many feel that this form of whitening kit allows for the most effective whitening treatment. However, the trays may be awkward for those with sensitive gag reflexes.
Teeth Whitening Strip Kits
Another option for over the counter teeth whitening kits is in the form of a strip. The strip is pre-moistened with a whitening chemical. One strip is placed on the top teeth and another on the bottom teeth. While these strips are thinner and more flexible for added comfort in the mouth, the may not reach all areas of the teeth. The strips can only whiten the areas that they touch. Therefore, cracks and in between teeth may not be whitened. Most strips only cover the front teeth and not the back teeth.
Using Teeth Whitening Gels
Other kits come with tubes of whitening gel. This gel is brushed onto the teeth, allowed to dry, and then removed. The gel is likely the quickest and most effective whitening kit when it comes to reaching all areas of the mouth. The user determines the placement of the whitening gel. Therefore, any area where the gel is applied will be whitened. However, the gel works best when it dries on the teeth. Mouth moisture and saliva often prohibits the gel from drying completely.
Choosing the best teeth whitening kit is often in the opinion of the user. While one type of kit works well for one person, it may not work so well for another. However unlike teeth whitening home remedies, all kits are specifically designed for the purpose of whitening teeth. If the directions are followed, whiter teeth should appear.
